Observations and research conducted in the last 30 years have revealed that our world is warming unexpectedly. Between February 2023 and January 2024, the global temperature increase exceeded the critical threshold of 1.5 degrees C for the first time. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is the most serious scientific authority in detecting the situation of global climate change, determining the measures that can be taken to stop this change and adapt to it, summarized the climate change situation in three words in its assessment report published in March 2022: widespread, rapid and intensifying. According to the report, it is predicted that the choices and actions we will make in the current 10 years will affect us for thousands of years. At this point, we aim to draw attention to global warming by using 21st century digital skills and to spread global warming awareness and climate literacy. The main goal of our project is to disseminate adaptation strategies to global warming and climate change, which directly or indirectly change the entire functioning of our planet, have the potential to affect human life in countless ways, and are considered the most important threat faced by humanity in recent years. Europe is one of the geographies that will be most exposed to the effects of climate change. Climate change has significant impacts in many countries and regions of Europe, and its consequences are becoming more and more frequent on economies and ecosystems, especially human life. Stronger droughts, heat waves and dry periods in a significant part of Mediterranean Europe will increase the length and severity of the fire season and the areas at risk of major fires, and may possibly increase desertification. This situation creates the need for the relevant segments to take part in the fight against climate change in a very broad perspective. Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey are located in the southern part of the European continent. Countries in southern Europe will be more affected by global warming than those in the north. In the south, heatwave-related deaths are particularly affected by water resources, habitat loss, energy demand for cooling, and wildfires. It is important to adapt climate strategies to regional situations, as different regions in Europe will face different impact issues.
CONCRETE GOALS
This project aims:
To study the temperature changes that have occurred since the last 100 years.
To set the protection of the earth as a primary goal while continuing its life.
To raise awareness of global warming and climate change with different European peers, to determine the measures to be taken to combat it.
To emphasize the effects of global warming and climate change on ecosystems and biodiversity.
To identify the devastating effects of sustainable development and climate change.
To achieve carbon neutrality and reduce waste and carbon footprint.
To teach the correct use of natural resources.
To reduce the use of traditional energy sources.
To take part in the preservation, protection and improvement of environmental quality, while aiming to protect human health.
To discover what might happen if we fail to tackle the issue
To create approaches in education related to the subject by using existing digital applications.
To strengthen environmental literacy competencies To gain analytical, critical thinking and digital skills.
To raise awareness among values such as European Citizenship, European Values, respect and tolerance between cultures
EXPECTED RESULTS
To provide an idea of how to design environment and climate change sensitive school environments based on the latest approaches to global warming and climate change.
To embrace its key role in the changes necessary for the transition to climate neutrality in cooperation with partner schools;
To learn about the problems, needs, digital and common applications of the subject, project-based approaches that can be used in this regard
To raise awareness of global warming and climate change and the quality of education
To enable students to acquire permanent behaviors that are sensitive to global warming and climate change.
